The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in utilizing replay technology.
Replay systems will be launched at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Players are granted the right to contest certain decisions from the official, following the practice currently in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This move follows just a season following the AELTC introduced ELC, which brought an end to the centuries-old tradition of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review other situations, such as:
- If a ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball touched an rival's racket or body during play.
- Possible hindrance end of a point.
Importantly, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
An illustrative case occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper conceded it was a tough call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire watched a video and ruled the player was guilty of interference, granting the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews aren't new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at every one of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where the crowd have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.
In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
