A defense minister has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is actively examining the possible threats associated with Chinese-made cars, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from talking about secret matters in all cars.
Safety Guidance for MoD Staff
In a recently aired appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to discuss classified material while riding in Chinese vehicles.
He said that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but noted that safety is a issue in all contemporary cars.
We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a secret classification in any kind of car, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that exist in all vehicle, to only have those secret talks in secure locations. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for anyone worried about safety.
After it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”
Wider Defence Background
This revelation follows reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable public transport and bring disruption to transport systems.
Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel has been shining lasers at RAF aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.
This wider defence environment highlights the significance of strong protocols and vigilance in every aspects of official activities, from vehicle usage to communication habits.
